Below is a list of the books I found the most informative - especially when I first started researching natural and holistic approaches. See what resonates for you. I wish someone had a list like this when I needed it so I'm really hoping this is a beacon of light for those who are searching.
Christ Beat Cancer by Chris Wark
A powerful blend of personal memoir and holistic healing guide. After being diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer at age 26, Wark chose to bypass chemotherapy and instead embraced a comprehensive wellness path rooted in toxin-free, plant-based diet, lifestyle transformation, and spiritual and emotional healing.
Note: I elaborate on my treatment choices here (insert link) and I don't think everyone can/should opt out of traditional western medicine, but this book is full of valuable information to complement standard-of-care as well.
Chris Beat Cancer Kitchen by Chris Wark (also check out his Square One Healing Cancer Coaching Program)
Nutrition guide and recipe book to support your holistic wellness journey.
Radical Remission by Kelly A. Turner
Turner explores the miraculous stories of over a thousand individuals who experienced healing from serious illnesses - most notably cancer - that defied medical expectations. Drawing on interviews with survivors and integrative healers, Turner identifies nine key factors present in nearly all cases, including radical diet changes, emotional release, social support, spiritual connection, and following one's intuition.
Radical Hope by Kelly A. Turner
Digging deeper into the on-going journeys of individuals who have experienced radical remission from cancer and other serious illnesses, and building on the healing principles outlined in Radical Remission. This book highlights new stories of survivors applying nine factors (above) while introducing a tenth element that enhances resilient health.
A groundbreaking shift in how we understand cancer - not just as genetic mutations, but as a metabolic disease rooted in insulin-driven imbalances. Fung reframes cancer's origin as "a fertile seed in fertile soil," explaining how high insulin levels, inflammation, and mitochondrial dysfunction create the perfect environment for cancer to thrive.
The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness, and Healing in a Toxic Culture by Gabor Mate MD
Tackling the hidden epidemic of chronic illness in Western societies, arguing that our concepts of "normal" life - stress, disconnection, and emotional suppression - are making us sick. Drawing on decades of clinical experience, Mate shows how trauma - both large and small - can imprint on the body and mind, contributing to conditions like autoimmune disorders, mental health struggles, and addictive behaviors.
